BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERS ARE IN DEMAND.............

Taking a share from biology and engineering biomedical engineers have made life better for us. There contribution include hearing aids, cardiac pace makers, artificial kidney, synthetic blood vessels, and synthetic joints and limbs.

Education and training
A biomedical engineer learns to use traditional engineering skills to analyze and solve problems in Biology and medicine. Students opt this field to be of service to the people ,to take share of excitement of working with living systems and to apply advanced technology to the complex problems of medical care.
Biomedical programmes offer BS,BA,BSE, and BE undergraduate degrees and at the graduate level ,they offer MS,ME,and doctorate degrees.Due to rapid advancement in the field of technology , new areas are emerging in the biomedical engineering .
Specialization within the field of Biomedical engineering are
-Bio instrumentation
-Biomaterials
-Biomechanics
-Cellular ,tissue&Genetic Engineering
-Chemical Engineering
-Medical Engineering
-Orthopaedic engineering
-Rehabilitation Engineering

Requirements
For admission to a Master's Programme in Biomedical Engineering, a bachelor degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Biomedical engineering from accredited college/University.
Good communication skills are also important because Biomedical engineers provide a vital link with professionals having medical, technical and other backgrounds.

The Career
They usually begin with less responsibility in a research facility or Hospital. As they gain experience they are given more responsibility eventually they can advance to administrative and executive positions within a company or become consultants. Generally career advancement based on experience, skill level completion of advance degrees and supervisory ability
Entry level jobs require only a bachelor degree where as for professional advancement Master's and doctoral degrees are often necessary. Certification and licensing are required if he provide his service to public.Certification as a professional engineer, require a degree from an accredited engineering programme,4 years of relevant work experience and passing a state engineering exam.

Work areas.......
Biomedical engineers are employed in Universities in industry, in hospitals, in research facilities of educational and medical institutions in teaching and in Govt.regulatory agencies.
They play a major role in co-coordinating and interfacing function using their knowledge in both engineering and medical field
Work done by Biomedical engineers include a wide range of activities such as
-Replacement/use of artificial organ (Cardiac pace makers, artificial kidneys, hearing aids and heart blood oxegenators, synthetic blood vessels, joints, arms and legs.)
-Manufacture of blood chemistry censors.
-Automated patient monitoring during surgery or in intensive care, healthy persons in unusual environments such as astronauts in space or under water divers at great depth.
-Advanced therapeutic and surgical devices .
-Application of expert systems and artificial intelligence to clinical decision making (computer based system of diagnosing diseases).
-Use of medical imaging systems.
-Involvement in biomechanics of injury and wound healing.
-Involvement in sports medicine. (Rehabilitation and artificial support devices etc.)
